Product Update

Enhanced Event Management: RSVPs, Reactions, and Authorization

6 min read

Event coordination has been significantly enhanced with a comprehensive set of features for managing attendees, engagement, and access control. These updates make organizing games, practices, tournaments, and team activities more efficient and interactive.

What's New

RSVP System with Attendee Tracking

Events now include a full RSVP system that lets players, parents, and members indicate their attendance. The attendee list shows both confirmed and declined responses, giving coaches and organizers a complete picture of participation.

A dedicated RSVP modal displays all attendees with their response status, making it easy to see who's coming and who's not. This visibility helps with planning logistics, from transportation needs to equipment counts to snack rotation.

Event Reactions and Replies

Events support the same reaction and reply functionality available for posts. Players and parents can react to events with emoji responses and participate in threaded discussions about event details.

This creates a natural space for event-related conversation—questions about carpool arrangements, requests for field directions, or excitement about the upcoming tournament—all connected directly to the event itself.

Authorization and View Transitions

A new authorization module controls access to event-related actions based on user roles and permissions. View transitions provide smooth navigation between event views, improving the overall user experience when browsing and managing events.

Why These Features Matter

Better planning: Accurate headcounts enable appropriate resource allocation. Knowing exactly how many players are attending the away game helps you arrange the right number of vehicles and order the correct amount of food.

Reduced coordination overhead: Instead of separate message threads asking "who's coming to Saturday's game?", all attendance information lives with the event.

Engagement context: Reactions and replies keep event-related discussion organized rather than scattered across multiple channels. Parents can ask about field location or uniform requirements right on the event.

Access control: Authorization ensures that event management actions (editing game times, canceling practices, viewing attendee lists) are available to coaches and team administrators while parents and players can view and respond.

How It Works

Creating and Managing RSVPs

When creating an event—whether it's a game, practice, tournament, fundraiser, or team social—the RSVP feature is automatically enabled. Players and parents see the event and can respond with their attendance status. Responses are collected and displayed in the attendee modal, accessible from the event details.

Participating in Event Discussions

React to events or add replies just as you would with regular posts. These interactions appear in the event thread, creating a centralized conversation space for all event-related questions and updates.

Authorization Controls

Permissions for event actions are determined by your role within the team or club. Coaches and team administrators have full control to create, edit, and manage events, while players and parents have appropriate viewing and participation permissions.

Practical Applications

Games and matches: Track player attendance, coordinate carpools in the replies, and see at a glance how many players confirmed versus how many are out.

Practices: Monitor who's coming to practice, field questions about location changes, and follow up with families who haven't responded yet.

Tournaments: Get accurate headcounts for multi-day events, coordinate hotel rooms and meals, and keep all tournament logistics discussion in one place.

Fundraisers and team socials: Plan team bonding activities and fundraising events with clear attendance numbers for venue booking and supply ordering.

Volunteer events: Track which parents can help with field maintenance day, concession stand duty, or tournament setup.

Technical Improvements

The view transition system provides smoother navigation when moving between event lists, individual event details, and attendee modals. This creates a more polished experience compared to abrupt page changes.

Authorization checks happen at multiple levels—both in the UI and on the backend—ensuring that access controls are enforced consistently and securely.

These event management enhancements are live across all teams and clubs. Events created before this update will automatically gain reaction and reply capabilities, while new events include full RSVP functionality.
